John Watson was born on 11 May 1791, in the Parish of Skeene, Aberdeenshire, and enlisted on 11 May 1807, aged 18, a labourer by trade. He was discharged at Aberdeen on 24 November 1815, in consequence of ‘amputated right arm from wound at Waterloo, near the shoulder’ and also ‘wounded left thigh at Bayonne.’ He served at Waterloo in Captain Samuel Maxwell’s No. 8 Company. He was admitted to an out-pension at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, on 14 May 1816.
