Arthur Tyrrell Blackett was born at Acton, Middlesex on 23 April 1885, the son of Spencer Collison Blackett, an army officer. He was educated by private tutor and abroad and was a publisher by profession. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 4th (Extra Reserve) Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment on 7 March 1915 and served with them during the Great War, joining the 190th Brigade of the 63rd Division in France on 20 July 1916. He was advanced Lieutenant on 1 July 1917 and remained with the 4th Bedfords for the duration of his war service. Blackett was advanced to Acting Captain on 18 February 1919 and posted to the 53rd Battalion in April 1919. He relinquished his commission on 1 April 1920 and died in 1934 in Hampshire.

William Frederick Taylor was born at Hertingfordbury, Hertfordshire, in 1877. He attested for the Honourable Artillery Company (Territorial Force) at Armoury House, Finsbury on 31 January 1916 stating his occupation as Musician. He served in the H.A.C. Band with the 1st Battalion in the rank of Musician (Private) from 30 September 1917 and transferred to the 2nd Battalion in Italy on 17 August 1918, remaining there until disembodiment on 7 February 1919.
