M.C. London Gazette 10 December 1919; citation 17 January 1920:

‘For conspicuous gallantry and initiative in front of Norchain, on 9th November, 1918. Throughout the day he kept assaulting the enemy rear-guards with energy and dash. At one point where the enemy were preparing to make a stand against the battalion on his right, he led his platoon against the enemy posts several hundred yards on his flank, and overcoming the obstacles facilitated the advance of the rest.’

John Morgan was born in Newtown, Wales, on 3 November 1889. He enlisted at Windsor, Ontario, on 27 October 1914, a fireman by trade. He accompanied the 18th Infantry Battalion to England in April 1915 and arrived in France in September 1915. He was appointed Lance-Corporal in the Field on 19 April 1916, and promoted to Sergeant on 13 December 1916. Appointed Temporary Lieutenant on 1 July 1917, he proceeded to France to re-join his battalion the following month. He returned to England in April 1919 and was discharged on 10 June 1919.
