A scarce Great War Immediate D.S.O. group of five awarded to 2nd Lieutenant Percy G. Coleman, North Staffordshire Regiment, later Lieutenant in the Welsh Guards
Distinguished Service Order, G.V.R., silver-gilt and enamel, in its Garrard & Co. Ltd. case of issue; British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaf (Lieut. P. G. Coleman.); Defence Medal; Special Constabulary Long Service, G.V.R., second issue (Percy G. Coleman.) these last four mounted as worn, good very fine (5) £1,800-£2,200
D.S.O. London Gazette 26 July 1917:
‘Coleman, Percy George, Second Lieut. (Temporary Lieut.), North Staffordshire Regt. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He reached his objective with his platoon and was almost immediately severely wounded. Although isolated and hemmed in by the enemy he maintained his position and repulsed heavy attacks with great loss to the enemy.’

Lieutenant Coleman later transferred to the Welsh Guards and served in the 1st Battalion with the B.E.F. from 5 September 1918 to 12 March 1919. According to his medal index card he did not claim is medals until October 1927, by which time he was living in Worthing, Sussex.
