Sidney James Allan Dodds was born in Lotta, Chile. He originally served as a private in the Rifle Brigade on the Western Front after 1 January 1916 and was discharged no longer fit for active service on 27 June 1916. He transferred to the Royal Flying Corps where he received a commission and commenced pilot training with ‘A’ Squadron, Central Flying School. He was killed in a flying accident during training on 20 July 1918- whilst flying SE5a B8358, an Avro collided with him killing both pilots. He is buried in Upavon Cemetery, United Kingdom.
Sold with the recipient’s R.F.C. pilot’s wings; cap badge; identity tags; soldier’s red book; and a small photograph believed to be the recipient.
