The original Recommendation, dated 17 August 1944, states: ‘Flight Sergeant Cusson has done excellent work as an Aero Engine Mechanic senior N.C.O. in all phases of Maintenance work at No. 2 Service Flying Training School. He has done outstandingly fine work on salvage operations, tradesmen training courses, and in particular has been largely responsible for the direction and design of synthetic training devices which have proved of great value in all phases of training at this Unit. His energetic application and devotion to duty highly support our recommendation that he be awarded the British Empire Medal.’

He was advanced Flight Sergeant on 1 August 1943, and served during the Second World War initially at No. 2 Service Flying Training School at Uplands in Canada, before arriving in the U.K. on 12 October 1944.
