The Order of Burma was instituted in 1940, three years after Burma became independent of British India. It was awarded to Governor’s Commissioned Officers for long, faithful and honourable service in the army, frontier force or military police of Burma, and from 1945 could be awarded for individual acts of heroism. Only 24 awards were made before it was abolished in 1947.
