A scarce Edward VII I.D.S.M. awarded to Jemadar Chattar Singh, 32nd Sikh Pioneers, for services in the Tibet Campaign for which he was mentioned in despatches

Indian Distinguished Service Medal, E.VII.R. (Jemdr. Chattar Singh, 32d Sikh Pioneers) complete with top suspension brooch, edge bruising and contact marks, otherwise very fine £600-800

Chattar Singh joined the service on 1 June 1887, and was commissioned as Jemadar on 16 August 1903. He served in the Sikkim expedition of 1888 (Medal with clasp), in the Hazara expedition of 1891 (clasp), at the relief of Chitral in 1895 (Medal with clasp), and in Waziristan in 1901-02 (clasp). In the Tibet campaign of 1903-04, he took part in the operations at and around Gyantse, 5 May to 6 July, and took part in the march to Lhassa, 14 July to 3 August 1904 (Medal with clasp). He was mentioned in the despatch of Brigadier-General J. R. L. Macdonald, C.B., for his services, which was published in the
London Gazette of 13 December 1904., and was subsequently awarded the I.D.S.M. for like services.
