Magor states: ‘This expedition, under the command of Major W. C. G. Heneker, Connaught Rangers, consisted of 255 Officers and men of the Southern Nigeria Regiment and was undertaken against unfriendly tribes to the north-east of Benin City, called the Ishan Ulia. Very severe fighting occurred between the 9 March and 8 May and casualties were 3 killed and 22 wounded.’
