Cyril Popham, born 13.8.1890, a Lieutenant in the R.A.M.C. serving in France and Flanders between 21.10.1914 - 11.11.1918. Promoted Captain on 1.6.1918, with the rank of Acting Major, 13.9.1920 - 14.4.1921 and Acting Lieutenant-Colonel, 12.1.1923 - 28.10.1925. Mentioned in Despatches for Waziristan, London Gazette 1.6.1923. Promoted Major on 16.9.1926 and Lieutenant-Colonel on 1.3.1938. With the rank of Acting Colonel, 1.10.1940 - 31.3.1941, Temporary Colonel, 1.4.1941 - 10.3.1944, he was promoted Colonel on 11.3.1944. For his services in the Second World War he was awarded the O.B.E., London Gazette 30 December 1941 and twice mentioned in despatches, London Gazette 30 December 1941 and 6 April 1944. He retired on 3.12.1947 and was still shown as on the Retired Pay List in 1956.
