Frederick Wilcox joined the Bengal Police Department on 25 May 1862, as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He took part in the Bhootan expedition in 1864-65, for which he received the medal with clasp. He was appointed a District Superintendent in June 1873 and served subsequently at Manbhoom, Dinagepore, Midnapore, Hazareebagh, and at Backergunge. By 1884 he had become a District Superintendent 3rd Grade, and by July 1888 had been promoted to the 2nd Grade. Wilcox was promoted to Deistrict Superintendent 1st Grade in July 1891. He officiated as Deputy Inspector-General in 1890, and again from July 1892. He retired in March 1895 and continued to be shown in the India Office List until 1921, when he presumably died.
