John Clark was born in Vange and enlisted at Warley, Essex. Serving with the 9th Battalion Essex Regiment, he was killed in action at the battle of the Somme on 3 July 1916, aged 18 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
