Pilot Officer Alexander Hugh Ormonde Butler, R.A.F. was the only son of Lieutenant-Colonel A. H. Butler, Indian Army.

Alexander Hugh Ormonde Butler was born on 19 September 1920, in India, the son of a British officer and an Indian lady. He was educated at Wellington College. Refused entrance into the R.A.F. College at Cranwell, he took employment in the City, but becoming restive, volunteered for service with the Finns in their war against the U.S.S.R. Afterwards he made his way via Sweden to England and was this time able to join the R.A.F. He was killed in action when his Typhoon of 137 Squadron, blew up in mid-air, on 20 September 1944. He was buried in Leopoldsburg War Cemetery, Limburg, Belgium. Sold with original (damaged) card boxof issue for medals addressed to Mrs S. Butler (his Mother) of Campden Hill Road, W8.

Alexander Hazelwood Butler was born in 1869 and commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the Cheshire Regiment in 1891. He joined the Indian Army with the rank of Lieutenant in 1892 and attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1917. He retired in 1921 and died in 1933. Sold with a quantity of research relating to both father and son.
