M.M. London Gazette 14 May 1919 (Leigh).
Samuel Hindley served with the 13th and 20th (4th Pals) Battalions, and from 18 February 1918, the 17th (1st Pals) Battalion, Liverpool Regiment. He went to France on 18 December 1917, reporting sick with trench fever on 18 February 1918. He was evacuated to the U.K. aboard the H.S. Western Australia on 10 March 1918.
It is interesting to note that Hindley’s total period of active service overseas amounted to just 62 days, in which time he must have gained the award of the M.M.
