D.C.M. London Gazette 20 October 1916 ‘For conspicuous gallantry as a stretcher bearer during operations. For many days he did fine work under heavy shell and machine-gun fire. When wounded himself he managed to bandage up a badly wounded officer and some men, who were lying out in the open under machine-gun fire.’

Peter Roughley was born, lived and enlisted in Liverpool. He went to France with the original contingent of the 1/8th Battalion, Liverpool Regiment on 3 May 1915, and was killed in action in France and Flanders on 23 February 1917. He is buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery, Leper, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
