1892 pattern Royal Army Medical Corps officer’s sword, blade 82cm retailed by Boyton & Son, Clerkenwell, London, etched GVR cypher, Royal Arms, foliate scrolls &c., and additionally within a cartouche ‘Capt. Burton R.A.M.C. 1915’, plated brass guard with GVR cypher, fish-skin covered grip bound with copper wire, in its plated steel scabbard, minor wear to fish-skin, plating worn on guard, and minor dents to scabbard £150-200

Percy Herbert Burton, youngest son of J. D. Burton, of Cambridge Heath, studied medicine at the London Hospital, where he became surgical clinical assistant. Qualifying in 1914, he went into practice at Stansted, Essex. Shortly after the outbreak of war he offered his services to the War Office and was attached to the 4th London Regiment in December 1914, with which battalion he served continuously in France until his death, aged 49. Captain Burton has no known grave and is commemorated by nameon the Arras Memorial.
