Alfred Charles Boddis was born in Wolverhampton in 1895 and educated at Merchant Taylors School. He served as a Lieutenant with the Royal Field Artillery 1916-19, entering the French theatre of war on 23 November 1917. After the War he was employed by the Royal Ordnance Factory, Woolwich 1919-22, with the Air Ministry, 1922-40 and with the Ministry of Air Production 1940-46. He was Secretary to the Air Mission to Canada in 1938, Contracts Advisor to the Air Mission to Australia in 1939, Contracts Member to the British Supply Board in North America 1939-40, Director of Contracts of the British Air Commission, U.S.A. during 1940-41, Lend Lease Liaison Officer 1941 and Controller of Supply Services, British Air Commission, Washington, 1942-44. In 1945 he was appointed Director of Contracts (Purchases) in the Ministry of Aircraft Production and Director of Contracts (Air) in the Ministry of Supply during 1946. Latterly he held the post of Secretary of the Iron and Steel Board 1946-49 and Under-Secretary of Ministry of Supply 1949-50. Boddis retired in 1950 and died in 1958.
