A Glazed and Framed Portrait photograph of Captain E. J. W. Dolphin, Hampshire Regiment, who was killed in action on the Western Front on 7 November 1914, mounted in a heavy wooden display frame, measuring 575mm x 510mm, surmounted by a silver and enamel Hampshire Regiment cap badge, with a silver plaque below inscribed ‘Captain E. J. W. Dolphin 1st. Batt. Hampshire Regiment Born 27th. Dec. 1885. Killed in action near Ploegsteert, Belgium. 7th. November 1914.’, very good condition
A Glazed and Framed Portrait photograph of Second Lieutenant D. Louden, Royal Artillery, who was killed in action at Gibraltar on 12 December 1941, mounted in a crome display frame, measuring 255mm x 210mm, and inscribed below ‘2nd. Lieut. David Louden, R.A., 1918-1941, 114/3rd Royal Regiment of Artillery. Killed in Action, Gibraltar, December 12th, 1941’, very good condition (2) £60-£80
Eric John Western Dolphin, the son of Lieutenant-Colonel H. E. Dolphin, of Guildford, Surrey, was educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, and was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Hampshire Regiment on 24 January 1906. He served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 23 August 1914, and was killed in action on 7 November 1914, whilst taking the (apparent) surrender of a group of German soldiers. He is buried in Ploegsteert Churchyard, Belgium.
David Louden, the son of J. M. Louden, Esq., of Dunmurry, co. Antrim, was born on 13 January 1918, and enlisted in the Special Reserve in 1939. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery, and served with the 3rd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment during the Second World War. He was killed on 11 December 1941, and is commemorated on the Brookwood Memorial.
