Approximately 136 South Africa 1834-53 medals and 153 India General Service medals with clasp Pegu issued to H.M.S. Styx.

Richard Kelner was born at Devonport on 1 June 1831, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class on 22 October 1846. He embarked in the 6-gun sloop H.M.S. Styx on 20 February 1852 (having been borne on her books from 25 June 1851, but having been in prison from then up until 12 February 1852), and served in her at the Cape of Good Hope during the Third Kaffir War, and latterly in the East Indies in the Pegu campaign, being promoted Able Seaman on on 3 August 1852.

Kelner was discharged from H.M.S.
Styx when she was paid off on 9 April 1856, and subsequently served in a variety of other ships, being advanced Boatswain 3rd Class on 25 April 1861. He died ‘on board Melville Hospital Ship at Hong Kong’ on 28 November 1864.
