A.L.S. by Benedetto Pistrucci, Chief Medallist at the Royal Mint, to the Master of the Mint. Addressed “Sir” and datelined “16 Oct. 1830 Royal Mint.” Refers to the forthcoming Coronation and the presumed need for appropriate medals to be struck. “In order that they may be in perfect readiness when wonted [sic] I may be permitted through your kind intercession with their Majesties to receive their Gracious Commands on this subject I shall be proud also as soon as possible to submit to you appropriate subjects for the reverses of the medals for their Majesties and your approval.” Pistrucci also refers to the commission he received from Herries’ predecessor, Lord Maryborough, for the Waterloo medal, the delay in its production and a visit made by William IV to his studio at the Mint. 18.7 x 22.6cm (double). A few folds but clean (£300-400)

Despite Pistrucci’s position and enthusiasm, the official Coronation medals were executed by Wyon
