The Liverpool City Police Good Service Medal, 1st type was instituted in 1900 and issued in silver and bronze. It differed from the later 2nd type in having on the obverse a beaded inner border and a crown of a different design. In effect it was the third type in the series of Police ‘Good Service’ medals to be awarded by the city; the Order of Merit Medal 1851 and the Diamond Jubilee Medal 1897 being the first and second.
