Chiswick Urban District Council L.S. Medal, reverse engraved, ‘Fireman R. C. Fensom, 1923’, 38 mm., silver, hallmark indistinct, with ‘10 Years Service’ suspension bar and ‘Long Service Medal’ brooch bar, with ribbon, good very fine £120-160

The Minutes of the Chiswick Urban District Council reveal that R. C. Fensom was appointed an Auxiliary Fireman in 1912, a Fireman in 1913 and that having completed 10 years service in 1923, the Council was resolved to award a L.S. medal. The medal was presented on 28 November 1923 at Chiswick Town Hall. Fensom had previously served as Trooper 3855, South African Constabulary in the Boer War, for which he was awarded the Q.S.A. with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State and South Africa 1902; and later as Sergeant 413, Royal Field Artillery in the Great War for which he was awarded a 1914-15 Star trio.
