George O'Brien Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont (1751-1837) of Petworth House and Orchard Wyndham, Somerset, was a major landowner and art collector and a particular friend of J.M.W. Turner. Egremont’s financial interests encompassed canal construction, paper mills and agriculture on his Yorkshire estates, and his considerable wealth enabled him to maintain some 15 mistresses, fathering more than 40 illegitimate children
