The Commissioners at Bognor organized themselves into a local board of 12 members and held their first meeting at 7 Hothamton place, Bognor, on 8 January 1867. Throughout the later Victorian era Bognor was a popular summer destination for visitors, both for boating and fishing. At the end of 1894, with the passing of the Local Government Act, the Board became Bognor U.D.C.
