Evan Evans, a native of Treorchy, South Wales, attested for the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and served with the 13th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 1 December 1915. Prior to the Great War he was the amateur Middleweight Wrestling Champion of Wales (press cutting from the Rhondda Leader, refers).
