Edwin Edward Essex was born at Southampton in 1921 and served during the Second World War with the 6th Maritime Regiment, Royal Artillery- this unit was formed in May 1941, and as well as port defence duties furnished gun crews for Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships, to provide additional convoy protection. He died in Southampton in 1995.
