Sidney Ernest Cotterill was born on in Leamington, Warwickshire, and attested for the Coldstream Guards at Warwick. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 26 August 1914, and was killed in action on Christmas Day 1914. He is buried in Le Touret Military Cemetery, Richebourg-l’Avoue, France.
