A 19th century gold and enamelled Japanese lacquer panel snuff box, probably French, the rectangular box with canted corners, the cover, sides and base mounted à cage with panels of chestnut brown lacquer, decorated in the Japanese taste, the lid depicting an exotic pheasant, amidst bamboo and daisy sprays, the sides and base panels decorated with assorted flowers and fauna including dandelions, convolvulus, irises and prunus blossom, the lightly encised gold framework enamelled in bassse taille with meandering pink and blue flowers amidst green leaves, dimensions 7.8 x 4.5 x 2.6cm. £10,000-£12,000
