The Patriotic Fund was set up by a Royal Commission chaired by the Prince Consort on 7 October 1854. The object of the fund was to collect money for the relief of the dependants of the soldiers, sailors and marines who were killed in the Crimean War. The Royal Victoria Patriotic Asylum in Wandsworth, built with money from the fund, was one of several projects that it established
