Leonard Gray, a native of Chelmsford, Essex, was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Essex Regiment (Territorial Force) and served with the 5th Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 7 May 1915. Advanced Captain, he died on 31 July 1917, and is buried in Alexandria (Hadra) War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
