Lloyd’s Medal for Meritorious Services, circular silver medal (Second Engineer William Heslop Muckle, S.S. “British Courage” 5th-6th December 1928) complete in its original presentation case, extremely fine £300-350
Awarded for services on the occasion of a serious fire in the British tank motor-vessel British Courage, bound from Abadan for Swansea with oil. Lloyd’s agents at Alexandria reported a wireless message from the German steamer Uarda to the effect that she was standing by the burning vessel waiting for the decision of the captain. The ship was ablaze aft and there was imminent danger of the explosion of the cargo. The crew was then partly on board and partly in the boats. A further message stated that the Uarda had rescued the crew from lifeboats.
