Major Francis George Maunde-Thompson entered the army in 1900, serving in the ranks for nearly five months with the City Imperial Volunteers. He was commissioned into the Royal Artillery in May 1900 with which regiment he remained until his retirement from the British Army in March 1923. Sold with a quantity of research, including several pages from Dictionary of National Biography relating to his father who was the director of the British Museum.
