Kenneth Buchanan Lloyd was born on 8 November 1897, son of Major T. W. Lloyd. He was educated at St Bees and Royal Military College Sandhurst. Commissioned into the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, he was seconded to the Royal Flying Corps and served with No.30 Squadron in Mesopotamia as a pilot. He was brought down in an aerial combat on 28 April 1917 after being attacked suddenly by a Fokker, and was engaged in several other combats in the air during the war. In December 1937 he was appointed Squadron Commander of the Flight of five London aircraft of No.204 Squadron for the Australian Cruise which left Mount Batten on 2nd December and returned to England in May 1938.
He was three times mentioned in despatches during the Second World War. Lloyd was A.O.C. Iceland, 1942-43; A.O.C. Malta, 1944-47; S.A.S.O., H.Q Coastal Command, 1947-49. He retired in 1949 as Air Vice-Marshal and died on 8 August 1973. The lot is sold with his three original M.I.D. Certificates, Warrants for the award of the C.B. and C.B.E., two R.A.F. Commission documents, and copies of combat reports.
