China, Shanghai, Ilbert & Co, bronze coining trial or proving piece by Greenwood & Batley, Leeds, G&B monogram, rev. dragon, 29mm, 7.51g (cf. Bullmore, SNC 1979, pp.438-9, no. 4; cf. Pridmore Sale, 329 [= Noble II, 1507]). Nick on reverse rim, otherwise very fine and very rare (£40-60)

Ilbert & Co ordered ten coining presses from Greenwood & Batley on 4 November 1904, to strike 10 cash coins. It is believed the small number of proving pieces of this issue were made at that time
