Ken Dowding was born in Manchester on 17 December 1984. He joined the Army from school and served with 7 Parachute Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery, in Iraq in 2003 and in Afghanistan in 2008. A keen rugby player he played for the Army and Combined Services XV against teams including Samoa, Argentina, and the Barbarians, was a member of the London Irish Academy, and also played rugby league for Harlequins. In May 2018 he played prop for the Army in the annual Army v Navy Babcock Trophy match at Twickenham Stadium, London. The match was won by the British Army, 22-14. Sold with several copied images from Afghanistan, various cuttings and press photographs covering his rugby career, and an official Programme for the Army v Navy Babcock trophy match of May 2010.
