George Jesse Ernest was born at Alresford, Hampshire, on 1 May 1868, and joined the Royal Navy as a Stoker 2nd Class on 13 February 1890. He is entitled to China 1900 for service in H.M.S. Wallaroo and received his L.S. & G.C. medal on 15 February 1905.
