Edward J. L. Wallis attested for the Oxfordshire Light Infantry on 28 October 1899 and, after service attached to the Indian Volunteers in 1912, retired as a sergeant-major with 21 years service. He joined the Corps of Corps of Commissionaires, with whom he was employed at the time of his death in Waltham Green, London, on 8 July 1939.
