Lyonel Henry St George Farrer was born in Kensington, London about 1885, he was the son of Captain Frederick Farrer, late Madras Army. He was educated at Harrow and Hertford College, Oxford, and having served in the O.T.C. at Oxford University he enlisted as a Private in the 18th (Public Schools) Battalion, Royal Fusiliers. He was commissioned Second Lieutenant in the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in November 1914, and served with the 5th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from October 1915, taking part in the severe fighting on the Ypres Salient. He died of wounds on 25 October 1915, aged 36, at No. 7 Stationary Hospital, and is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, France.
