France, Le Vêtement du Prisonnier de Guerre, 1914, a cast bronze plaque by M. Blondat [after Forain], prisoner of war seated, writing pad perched on his knee, left hand to his forehead, rev. legend in 8 lines, 133 x 80mm (Frankenhuis 104; V & A Exh. Cat. 1998, 51). Extremely fine (£90-120)
Max Blondat (1872-1926), the French sculptor and medallist, borrowed the figure of the imprisoned soldier on the obverse from the contemporary poster by Jean-Louis Forain (1852-1931), issued as part of the war effort in support of French troops
