Wolstan Francis was appointed Lieutenant on 20 November 1875. He served with the 2nd Battalion, Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry, throughout the Egyptian war of 1882, and was present at the reconnaissance in force from Alexandria on the 5th August, in the engagements at El Magfar and Tel-el-Mahuta, in the two actions at Kassasin, and at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir.
