Robert Brown was born in Gateshead, in January 1934, and served with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers in Malaya. He died of gun shot wounds received in a terrorist incident whilst on active service in Malaya, 29 December 1956, and is buried in the Kamunting Road Christian Cemetery, Taiping, Perak. Brown’s name is also commemorated at the National Memorial Arboretum.
