Percy Porter was born at Bury, Lancashire, and attested there for the Lancashire Fusiliers. He served with the 1st/5th Battalion during the Great War initially in Egypt, and thence in Gallipoli, and was reported missing, subsequently being confirmed as killed in action on 6 June 1915. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Helles, Memorial, Turkey.
