S.W.Fores No. 4, for Self, Taffy Bull, Andrew Bull & Pat Bull, 2 Pence, 4 June 1818, promising to pay ‘McCree, Trottoff & Co. or Bearer, when Melvillism shall have received its just reward and when its effects also shall have ceased in every department of the British Government’, signed by John Bull and Saml Brownstout, with a vignette showing a bugler, axe and rope, labelled ‘10th Report!! This note appears to be a simple protest against radicalism in the United Kingdom, and implies that the ‘just reward’ for such behaviour is hanging! Of course, it is quite likely that the entire note is actually ironic, and is actually in support of radical thinking.
