Frederick Charles Jones was taken P.O.W. at Hong Kong in December 1941, while serving in the rank of Regimental Sergeant-Major, H.K.V.D.C. It is possible, therefore, that his subsequent award of the M.B.E. reflected his deeds as prisoner of the Japanese - certainly it was gazetted to him in his immediate post-war rank of Sergeant-Major, H.K.V.D.C.
