B.E.M. London Gazette 1 January 1942.
John Hodgson, who was born in Liverpool in March 1886, was decorated for his services in the S.S. Nestor, a vessel of the Blue Funnel Line (Seedie’s refers). Among other wartime tasks, this 1913 -vintage passenger-cargo ship assisted in the evacuation of British children to Australia. Her captain was awarded an O.B.E. on the same occasion, and her Chief Officer an M.B.E. in the following year.
The Nestor proved to be Hodgson’s final seagoing appointment, for he was discharged in July 1943, and awarded a disability allowance in May 1944.
