The Royal Clan Alpin Regiment (Fencible Infantry), a rare and magnificent officer’s silver and gilt oval shoulder belt plate, the gilt back plate with applied reeded silver raised rim enclosing a fine hand wrought cast silver mount featuring a crowned strap inscribed ‘The Royal Clan Alpin Regiment’ and central family emblems being a sword with an ancient crown on the point lying crossed over an eradicated oak tree, original leather chamois liner over one hook and two studs to reverse which also bears a ‘journeyman’s mark’ of three small roundels forming a triangle, excellent original condition £700-900
Note: Raised 25 February 1799 under the command of Colonel Alexander M’Gregor Murray, the sword and oak tree being the principal charges from the family ‘M’Gregor or Murray of Napier Ruskie, Perthshire’, the regiment was disbanded 1801
