Ralph James Leishman Robertson was initially commissioned into the Royal Artillery, prior to transferring to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps in 1942. He subsequently transferred to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, and was granted the rank of Honorary Major in 1947. Robertson relinquished his commission in July 1959.
