M.C. London Gazette 1 February 1919:
‘For most conspicuous gallantry during the attack on Ribecourt on 27th September, 1918, when the company was held up by heavy machine-gun fire from an enemy machine-gun nest. Under cover of fire of the rest of the company this officer rushed forward and captured the nest of machine-guns. The total captures of this movement were six machine guns, one trench mortar, and over 100 prisoners. He did magnificent work.’

Thomas Coverley Thompson was born on 25 May 1899. He joined the 4th Royal Fusiliers in December 1917, and served in France and Belgium from May to November 1918. He became Lieutenant in the Royal Signals on 12 June 1919 and served with them during the Iraq Operations of 1919-20 (despatches, Medal with clasp).
