John Hodges attested into the Lancashire Fusiliers and served during the Great War with the 2nd Battalion on the Western Front from 11 November 1914. After further service with the 1st Battalion until 6 June 1916, he transferred to the Royal Defence Corps and was appointed Corporal. The award of a clasp to his 1914 Star is confirmed on his Medal Index Card.
