British War Medal 1914-20 (Lieut. J. E. Purvis. R.N.V.R.) nearly extremely fine £60-£80
John Eiston Purvis, a native of Alnwick, Northumberland, was educated at the Leys School, Cambridge, and was commissioned temporary Sub-Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 15 May 1916. Promoted temporary Lieutenant on 15 May 1917, he was killed when Motor Launch 561 struck a mine and sunk off Ostend, off the Belgian coast, on Trafalgar Day, 21 October 1918. He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
